University of Greenwich Data Leak Lawyers Instructed To Act For Victims

We’ve been contacted by a number of people affected by the University of Greenwich data leak which saw hundreds (although potentially more) students have their personal information posted on the university website.

Information may have been accessible for several years, and it included personal, financial, and medical information about a number of students. Although the distress alone of your personal information being available online is bad enough, there is a real risk of identity fraud issues because financial and contact information, and even signatures of students, were posted.

It remains unclear exactly how the information was made available, and we can but speculate at this stage. We’ve been discussing theories with the students who have contacted us for help, and we can only assume for the time being that whoever was posting the data hadn’t realised it was available for the public.

A simple Google search from the whistleblower resulted in discovering a wealth of documents uploaded online about students, such as minutes of meetings; progress reports; medical documentation; issues raised about student’s family concerns; contact information; financial information; and images of signatures.

Those who have contacted us for help and instructed the Data Leak Lawyers to act for them are naturally concerned. We’ve known about the leak for a number of weeks now, but the university has only just begun contacting affected students (from what we understand). Our lawyers have seen copies of the letter, and so far some have been offered a free 12 month subscription to Experian credit services for monitoring of fraud and identity theft.
