A number of Santander cash machines have been effectively targeted by criminals, and police are warning people to be vigilante and to avoid using Santander cash points.<\/p>\n

First reports came in from police who confirmed: \u201cSecurity at Santander ATMs in Lancs (Lancashire) has been compromised. Advice is not to use them\u201d – but the warning has since been extended across the whole of the UK.<\/p>\n

Victims who have lost money are being told to contact Santander as soon as possible.
\n
\nCash and card machine hacks are not uncommon, and are often the work of serious and organised criminal gangs. A compromised cash machine can copy your card information for cloning, or swallow the card (using the Lebanese Loop technique) for retrieval later, whilst nearby ‘watchers’ look for your PIN number, or in some cases, cameras are installed on the machines to record your PIN number.<\/p>\n

Police are asking people to be extra vigilant and to refrain from using machines that may look like they have been tampered with, and to always shield pin numbers when putting them in.<\/p>\n
