81,000 private messages hacked in Facebook data breach<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One recent Facebook data breach incident involves the reported sale of private messages that have apparently been hacked from Facebook accounts.<\/p>\n

Some 120 million accounts were apparently compromised that led to 81,000 hacked messages being put up for sale. Some of those affected appear to include UK citizens.<\/p>\n

Facebook is said to have plugged the holes in security issues, which are understood to have stemmed from third-party extensions. These can include apps and browser add-ons.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Facebook said:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have contacted browser-makers to ensure that known malicious extensions are no longer available to download in their stores. <\/em><\/p>\n

We have also contacted law enforcement and have worked with local authorities to remove the website that displayed information from Facebook accounts.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The infamous Cambridge Analytica Facebook data breach<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The infamous Cambridge Analytica Facebook data breach is still fresh in our minds. The Information Commissioner\u2019s Office (ICO) fined Facebook the maximum amount under the old rules; \u00a3500,000.00.<\/p>\n

In the post-GDPR era, this could have been millions.<\/p>\n

This particular Facebook data breach was classed as a \u201cserious breach\u201d where Facebook had allowed access to people\u2019s data \u201cwithout clear consent\u201d. They were found to have unfairly processed data and failed to keep it secure.<\/p>\n

Data collected was then used for political marketing purposes.<\/p>\n
