In an age of continual breaches and hacks, we know that people want to know what they can do if they become a victim of a data breach.<\/p>\n

The important thing to know is that we\u2019re here for you, and this is important for a number of reasons that we\u2019ll go through now for you.<\/p>\n

You may find that you don\u2019t feel like the fact that you\u2019re the victim of a breach is treated as a priority by the offending organisation. You may feel that they don\u2019t take the incident seriously enough, and understandably, this can make people angry. But there is far more you can do and there is far more you can be entitled to in law as well.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re the victim of a data breach, what happens?<\/strong><\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re the victim of a data breach, the organisation responsible for the incident will normally inform you as to what has happened. They\u2019ll likely make their apologies and promise to thoroughly investigate what has happened. They\u2019ll probably also promise to improve security, which suggests it may not have been a priority in the first place. They may also offer you a free monitoring package (through Experian, for example).<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n

On top of that, one recent study suggested that bosses don\u2019t usually face the sack in the wake of a data breach. In fact, some bosses receive more money in the wake of a breach, and the initial share selling shock doesn\u2019t always last too long.<\/p>\n
