Given that the police must store and process a significant wealth of very personal and sensitive information, the report makes for concerning reading.<\/p>\n<p>No one is above the law, and this includes the police. In their Audit Summary, the ICO issued the force with an Assurance Rating of \u201cLimited\u201d in respect of the three areas of scope that they looked into.<\/p>\n<p>The areas of scope looked at are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Governance and Accountability.<\/li>\n<li>Information Security.<\/li>\n<li>Training and Awareness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The overall opinion cited for each of these areas in the report from the ICO read as follows for each of them:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere is a limited level of assurance that processes and procedures are in place and are delivering data protection compliance. The audit has identified considerable scope for improvement in existing arrangements to reduce the risk of non-compliance with data protection legislation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the breakdown of the matters that required the most urgency, there were a total of 16 \u201curgent\u201d priority recommendations made, and a total of 61 \u201chigh\u201d priority recommendations made. The ICO also published a list of specific areas for improvement as part of the report.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Concerns in respect of police data breaches<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The ICO report looking into the Greater Manchester Police data matters does make for concerning reading.
