cyberattack compensation

We are taking forward claims for data breach compensation for victims of the recently publicised Guntrader hack that has resulted in the personal information of UK gun owners being exposed.

The Guntrader cyberattack is understood to impact as many as 100,000 records and could expose the details of UK gun owners who have used the website Guntrader.co.uk. The company is understood to have learned of the incident on 19th July 2021, and the matter has been referred to the UK’s data regulator, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

About the Guntrader cyberattack data breach

The Guntrader hack is understood to have affected over 100,000 people, with records of the personal details of users of the Guntrader.co.uk website being stolen. Names and addresses are understood to be affected, which could lead to the locations of dangerous weapons falling into the hands of criminals.

The matter is being investigated by the police and the National Crime Agency (NCA), and firearms owners who could be affected are being urged to be cautious and keep any guns on their premises under lock and key.

Impact of the Guntrader hack

The impact of the Guntrader hack on the victims could be substantial. If the personal details of firearms owners are exposed to criminals – particularly organised crime – they could be targeted, and they could be in real danger.

In a concerning update that was in the media this week, it is also understood that the personal details of over 100,000 victims of the Guntrader data breach may have been dumped online. Alarmingly, it is understood that the data dump could allow people to format the data to use Google Earth to pinpoint firearms owners with certificates, according to The Register.

As with most data breaches, we cannot undo the damage done, but victims have the right to take legal action. And that is exactly what we can do for our clients.
