About The Newegg Data Breach

Victims in England and Wales can claim with the Data Leak Lawyers. This appears to be yet another serious attack that has put victims at an immediate risk of theft and fraud.

The Newegg data breach came to light when Newegg confirmed that they had discovered that one of their servers had been injected with malware. The discovery was made on 18 September 2018, and the malware appears to have been active since 14 August 2018.

Anyone who has completed a payment process through the Newegg site (both desktop and mobile) between 14 August 2018 and 18 September 2018 may be affected.

Security researchers believe that the hackers are the same ones who successfully hit British Airways and Ticketmaster. The base code used in the Newegg data breach was the same as the one used in the British Airways breach, and it's thought that the hackers exploited a vulnerability in the website to inject the malware into the server.

With the malicious code injected, payment data appears to have been skimmed from Newegg for over a month.

Newegg say they are contacting customers who have been affected, and an FAQ is expected to be released soon. The company is reportedly worth billions, and their monthly traffic is said to be in the millions, so a large volume of people may have been affected by this breach.

What To Do As A Victim Of The Newegg Data Breach

News of the Newegg data breach has only just been released, and the company are yet to provide further advice to potential victims.

Our advice is the same as the advice we have provided to victims of the British Airways data breach that we are representing people for: contact your bank immediately as you may need to cancel the affected card straight away.

If full payment data has been skimmed, victims may be at an immediate risk of fraud.

Any cyberattack where payment data is compromised is serious, and victims may be at an immediate risk of fraud and theft.

The GDPR that came into force in May was warning enough that companies need to take data security seriously. The Ticketmaster data breach was clear evidence that payment systems will be targeted, so the fact that Newegg has still been hit is concerning.

The Data Leak Lawyers are fighting for justice in over 50 different data breach actions, including the British Airways data breach and the Ticketmaster data breach that the hackers in the Newegg data breach are said to be responsible for.
