The firm recently settled a case for a client involving the disclosure of mental health information where we were able to recover in excess of £10,000 in damages.

This was another pleasing result for our dedicated privacy and data protection compensation team helping people when their right to privacy has been breached.

Settlement in excess of £10,000 achieved

Last year, the firm was successful in recovering in excess of £10,000 in damages for a client whose sensitive mental health information was inadvertently disclosed to a third party without consent. This seemingly simple error resulted in considerable distress for our client, which was additional distress suffered by a person already suffering from mental health problems.

We were pleased to be able to recover in excess of £10,000 for our client having fought hard for their right to pursue privacy compensation.

Importance of protecting mental health information

Our dedicated team of privacy experts pursue a significant volume of healthcare data breach compensation cases, with many of those involving mental health information. Medical data itself is some of the most personal and sensitive that there can be, and mental health information is a subcategory of significant importance. Ultimately, when somebody is already suffering from mental health problems, to have their mental health information then disclosed in a breach can be catastrophic.
