Equifax lawsuit in the UK

If you’ve yet to join the Equifax lawsuit in the UK that we’re pursuing on behalf of a number of victims, there’s still time to claim.

We started our action for justice against Equifax back in 2017 when news of the massive breach hit the headlines. Since then, we’ve been taking cases forward on a No Win, No Fee basis.

We’re keeping our clients duly updated. Although we can’t go into too much detail about where we’re at with the action for non-clients, we can tell you about a few developments in the fight for justice here and across the world.

Equifax cyber breach was entirely preventable

We’ve been stating that the Equifax cyber breach was entirely preventable since we launched our legal action for compensation last year.

Equifax failed to patch a known security vulnerability. On top of that, their staff failed to identify the ongoing vulnerability. To make things worse, they didn’t even spot the data being lifted for months and months.

Although we’ve known this for a while, it’s good to see the same statements from external reports. Unsurprisingly, another report has highlighted this important fact. It’s a fact that means we’re confident in securing compensation in the legal action we’ve launched.

Forest of Dean Council selling data and the Equifax breach

The Forest of Dean Council selling data to Equifax means that residents of the area may be affected by the Equifax data breach scandal.

We’re already acting for a large number of victims of the Equifax data breach since we launched our legal action last year. Although Equifax has been fined the maximum allowed under the old rules by the ICO, our legal action is for compensation for victims. This is separate to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) penalty for breaching the law.

We, of course, cannot go into detail about who we’re acting for with our legal action. What we can say though is that, based on recent news from Gloucestershire Live, a large number of Forest of Dean residents may be affected by the Equifax data breach.

Advice about the Equifax ICO fine and compensation

The Equifax ICO fine was welcome news, although victims may need clarity on their rights for compensation as well as understanding the fine itself.

The Equifax ICO fine was the maximum allowed under the rules that came before the GDPR. Had the incident have occurred in the post-GDPR era, Equifax could have faced fines amounting to millions.

The fine itself is separate to any compensation claim a victim is entitled to make. We launched our legal action last year and it’s not too late to join if you’ve yet to sign-up. Read on for more information about how the fine was issued as well as victims’ rights to compensation.
